The Island of Fort Krasnik
The most popular game on the island of Fort Krasnik is called “Ballast.” In this contest, two teams must navigate the darkened passageways of an old shipwreck in order to find a collection of massive cannon balls. The first team to emerge from the shipwreck with all the cannonballs wins. The only problem is that the ship, an old freighter known as the Nyetbezkov, is in miserable shape. Here is what the captain of this freighter, an old sea dog from the port of Gdansk, wrote in the ship's log just before he crashed into the rocky shores of Fort Krasnik: “Tylko głupiec albo szaleniec mógłby wsiąść na taki statek lub, w samej rzeczy, przybyć na tę wyspę złodziei i morderców. Moja żona miała rację. Chyba zwariowałem.” Translation: “Only a fool or a madman would set foot on this ship or, for that matter, ever bother coming to this island of thieves and murderers. My wife was right. I must be out of my mind.”
